RECAP: @Patriotstennis men earn 5-4 win over UTPB

TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s tennis team earned a 5-4 win over UT Permian Basin on Sunday, while the women fell 7-2 to the Falcons at the Summers Tennis Center. UT Tyler also played Collin County and Jacksonville in a pair of exhibition matches and will now host Austin College at 10 a.m. on Saturday in their next home match during Homecoming Weekend.

The Patriot men improved to 2-1 on the season by taking down the NCAA Division II opponent, starting with a 2-1 lead after doubles with No. 1 doubles Arthur Fagundes and Pablo Gomez earning an 8-3 win. In third doubles, Vinicio Hadlich and Jose McIntyre were 9-7 winners to give the Patriots the advantage going to singles play.

Hadlich would secure his second win of the day in second singles with a 6-0, 1-6, 10-7 win and Daniel Rodriguez was a 7-6, 7-3 winner in third singles action. In fifth singles, Gomez gave the Patriots the edge with a 7-6, 6-0 win.

Alexis Arrieta won a pair of matches for the women’s team against the Falcons, starting by teaming up with Alexandra McKissick for an 8-3 first doubles win and then securing a 6-2, 6-4 first singles win. The Patriots are now 1-1 on the season going into their match against Austin College on Saturday before playing their next six matches in Orlando, Florida.
