SAN ANTONIO – The UT Tyler Patriots are not messing around at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.

In singles and doubles play, three of the four semifinalists are from UT Tyler going into Sunday’s final day at Trinity University.

Arthur Fagundes, who is the defending champion, is on to the singles semis along with Daniel Rodriguez and Vinicio Hadlich. Fagundes is the top-ranked player in the tournament and advanced with wins over opponents from Trinity and UT Dallas and will now play Alex Hunt who is from Hardin-Simmons on Sunday in the semis. Hadlich advanced to the semis with a 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 win over Southwestern’s Alexis Dimanche who was the second seed in the tournament. Hadlich will play Rodriguez in an all-UT Tyler semi after Rodriguez knocked off teammate Gabriel Hidalgo with a 6-3, 6-4 quarter final win. Hidalgo had earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Trinity’s Wilson Lambeth in the quarters and Rodriguez a win over a Southwestern opponent.

The singles semis will be followed by the championship which will send the winner to the ITA national tournament.

In doubles play, Rodriguez and Hidalgo continue their quest for a regional title on Saturday after earning an 8-4 win over Southwestern on Saturday and will face Austin College on Sunday. On the other side of the bracket, it’s all UTT with Fagundes and Pablo Gomez earning an 8-6 win over UTD’s Chen/Vaithianathan facing Hadlich and Jose McIntyre.
