    CHAMPS: @Patriotstennis wins ASC East titles

    The UT Tyler tennis programs earned American Southwest Conference East Division titles after securing a pair of wins over East Texas Baptist on Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex. The No. 37-ranked Patriot women won their 13th divisional title and will host the ASC Championship from April 26-28 at the Summers Tennis Center. The No. 30-ranked men’s team won 7-2 over the Tigers for their 15th straight divisional championship.

    The UT Tyler Tennis teams will host a pair of American Southwest Conference matches against Ozarks at 9 a.m. on Sunday and LeTourneau at 5 p.m. on Monday after playing at ETBU on Saturday in a three-match stretch. The Patriots will honor their three seniors, Alexis Arrieta, Marisa Quevedo, and Alexandre Bouchard prior to their match against Ozarks, beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Summers Tennis Center. The matches were moved to due to weather.

    AWARD: Gomez earns ASC Player of the Week

    UT Tyler junior Pablo Gomez earned his second ASC Player of the Week of the season by going 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. Gomez earned fourth singles victories against No. 31 Kalamazoo 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 and Colby 7-6, 6-3, and a number five win over No. 16 Trinity 6-3, 6-2. He also teamed with Vinicio Hadlich to earn an 8-6 win at third doubles against Trinity.

    The UT Tyler tennis teams will go on the road this weekend where they will take on some fierce competition down in the hill country. The Patriot men’s team will play No. 31 Kalamazoo College on Thursday at 10 a.m. in San Antonio before facing off against No. 15 Trinity University on Friday at Noon. The team will then travel down the road to Austin to face a 5-1 Colby College squad. As for the women, they will face No. 18 Trinity in San Antonio on Friday before they play Colby College on Saturday at noon in Austin.

    AWARD: Hidalgo named ASC East Player of the Week

    UT Tyler sophomore Gabriel Hidalgo has earned ASC East Division Player of the Week for the first time this season after putting together an impressive spring break week by going 5-0 in singles play and 4-1 doubles with his partner Daniel Rodriguez. Hidalgo finished off the week with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Cal Tech in fourth singles after singles wins after wins over opponents from Rochester, Franklin & Marshall, Rensselaer and Colby-Sawyer in Orlando.

UT Tyler also played Collin County and Jacksonville in a pair of exhibition matches and will now host Austin College at 10 a.m. on Saturday in their next home match during Homecoming Weekend.

    The UT Tyler tennis home matches against UT Permian Basin, Collin County and Jacksonville College at the Summers Tennis Center have been moved back to Sunday due to weather forecasts. The teams have been off for two weeks after opening their season on February 3rd with wins over Hardin-Simmons, before their second match was canceled because of weather. The No. 23-ranked men’s team also played St. Edward’s on Feb. 4, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Hilltoppers in College Station.

    AWARD: Rodriguez wins ASC East Player of the Week

    UT Tyler sophomore Daniel Rodriguez picked up three wins in the opening weekend of play with a 6-0, 7-5 third singles win against HSU and then a pair of doubles victories with teammate Gabriel Hidalgo. Rodriguez and Hidalgo started with an 8-2 second doubles win against HSU and then secured an 8-5 second doubles win over St. Edward's on Sunday in College Station. Rodriguez and the Patriots return to the court this weekend when they host Southwestern on Saturday in Tyler.

    The UT Tyler men's tennis team opened its spring season with an 8-1 win over Hardin-Simmons on Saturday before bad weather arrived and canceled its afternoon match against McMurry at the Summers Tennis Center. The win was the first in the UT Tyler career of head coach Adam Cohen who took over the program this season.

    The UT Tyler men's tennis team has been voted to win the American Southwest Conference East Division title by the coaches from the conference. UT Tyler received 12 of 13 votes for the East and UT Dallas had 10 of 13 votes on the West Division side.

    ITA ORACLE CUP UPDATES

    Arthur Fagundes fell 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of the ITA Oracle Cup on Thursday to Daniel Levine of Carnegie Mellon who is the second seed in the tournament. Fagundes will play on Friday on the back draw of the tournament against Brian Grodecki from Williams College.

    CHAMPS! Fagundes, Gomez advance to ITA Oracle Cup

    The UT Tyler men's tennis team owned the 2017 ITA Southwest Regional Championships with Arthur Fagundes winning the singles title and then partnering with Pablo Gomez to win the doubles championship on Sunday at Trinity University. The two Patriots earned berths to the ITA Oracle Cup which will be on Oct. 11-15 in Rome, Georgia and hosted by Berry College.

    DAY 2: @patriotstennis dominating at ITA Southwest Regional Championships

    Arthur Fagundes, who is the defending champion, is on to the singles semis along with Daniel Rodriguez and Vinicio Hadlich. Fagundes is the top-ranked player in the tournament and advanced with wins over opponents from Trinity and UT Dallas and will now play Alex Hunt who is from Hardin-Simmons on Sunday in the semis. Hadlich advanced to the semis with a 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 win over Southwestern’s Alexis Dimanche who was the second seed in the tournament. Hadlich will play Rodriguez in an all-UT Tyler semi after Rodriguez knocked off teammate Gabriel Hidalgo with a 6-3, 6-4 quarter final win. Hidalgo had earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Trinity’s Wilson Lambeth in the quarters and Rodriguez a win over a Southwestern opponent.

    The UT Tyler women’s and men’s tennis programs have been honored as Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Teams and fourteen student-athletes earned ITA Scholar Athlete for the Patriots.

    Adam Cohen to lead UT Tyler tennis programs

    The University of Texas at Tyler has hired Adam Cohen as the head tennis coach for the men’s and women’s programs. Cohen has an impressive 209-86 career record leading the Mesa Community College men’s and women’s programs from 2007-17, including winning nine conference championships and advancing to 17 national tournament appearances. He arrives in Tyler after guiding the Thunderbird men to four straight Arizona Community College Athletic Conference championships and the women to back-to-back titles.

    Fagundes earns ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete

    UT Tyler's Arthur Fagundes has built an impressive resume after only two seasons in Tyler and can now add American Southwest Conference Distinguished Scholar-Athlete to it after being honored by the ASC on Tuesday for his impressive work on the court for the men's tennis team and in the classroom. In addition, Alex Bishop (baseball), Michelle Obach (basketball), George Toone (golf), KK Stevens (softball), Tori Musngi (tennis), Matthew Roe (men’s track & field) and Rachel Willis (women’s track & field) represent UT Tyler on the ASC 2017 Winter-Spring Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams.
