RECAP: @patriottennis earns four ASC wins on Saturday

TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis teams went 4-0 on Saturday with a pair of American Southwest Conference sweeps of Belhaven and East Texas Baptist on Senior Day at the Summers Tennis Center. The Patriot men will complete a four-match week when they host No. 13 Whitman at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

RESULTS: Mens // Women

The No. 17-ranked men’s team improved to 14-5 with an 8-1 win over Belhaven before securing a 9-0 win over the Tigers to improve to 3-0 in ASC play. The women’s team also took an 8-1 win to start the day against Belhaven and then battled out a 5-4 win over the Tigers (14-4).

Alexis Arrieta earned a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 first singles win for the Patriots against ETBU, while Tori Musngi was a 6-1, 7-5 second singles winner. Musngi, who was honored before the match as UT Tyler’s lone senior, is now 9-4 in singles action this season. In doubles play, Lauren Kuhn and Nancy Perez earned an 8-4 second doubles win while Savannah Seely and Alexandra McKissick secured an 8-6 third doubles win. Seely was also a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 sixth singles winner for the Patriots who are now 3-0 in ASC play.

On the men’s side, it was a clean sweep against the Tigers with Gabriel Hidalgo taking a 6-1,6-0 first singles win and Ryan Elwood and Hidalgo taking an 8-0 first doubles win. Jake Cunningham, Elwood and Joey Fischer were honored before the match for Senior Day and all three were winners in their matches. Fischer would play second doubles with Cameron McCarthy and earned an 8-3 win, while Jake Cunningham and Ford Cunningham were 8-3 third doubles winners.

Jake Cunningham also secured a 6-3, 6-4 second singles win, while Elwood was a 6-3,6-4 third singles winner.
