RECAP: No. 17 @patriotstennis falls to No. 15 Trinity

TYLER – Arthur Fagundes rolled to a first singles victory and Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez pulled out a hard-fought second doubles win for the No. 17 UT Tyler men’s tennis team but No. 15 Trinity was earned a 7-2 team win over the Patriots on Friday at the Summers Tennis Center.


The Patriots (12-5) will return to action with two American Southwest Conference matches starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday against Belhaven and East Texas Baptist before finishing a four-match weekend with a 10 a.m. match on Sunday against No. 13 Whitman.

Fagundes, who is ranked No. 9 in DIII, improved to 11-1 in singles play on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win over No. 28 Chas Meyer. In doubles play, Fagundes and Jose McIntyre battled but dropped an 8-6 decision to Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer. Fagundes and McIntrye are now 4-4 on the season while Fischer and Gomez improved to 13-3 in doubles play with their 8-6 second doubles win over Clayton Niess and Chas Meyer.

The Patriots will honor Jake Cunningham, Ryan Elwood and Joey Fischer between matches on Saturday for Senior Day.
