RECAP: @patriotstenns battles No. 31 Gustavus Adolphus in Waco

WACO – The No. 17-ranked UT Tyler men’s tennis team battled but fell 5-4 in a non-conference match against No. 31 Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday at the McLean Tennis Courts on the Baylor University campus.

UT Tyler’s Arthur Fagundes and Jose McIntyre earned an 8-6 first doubles victory in the only doubles win for the Patriots, while Daniel Rodriguez secured a 6-2, 6-3 third singles win and then Pablo Gomez a 7-6, 6-3 fourth singles victory. Joey Fischer would give the Patriots another win with a 6-1, 6-2 fifth singles win to tie the match. In first singles, No. 9 Arthur Fagundes would go to three sets but fall for the first time to No. 3 Mohanand Alhouni. Fagundes, who is now 10-1, took a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 7-5, 6-1 to take the loss.

UT Tyler will open American Southwest Conference play against Ozarks at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in Clarksville, Arkansas.
