RECAP: @patriotstennis earns 8-1 win over No. 30 Stevens

ORLANDO, Florida – The No. 25-ranked UT Tyler men’s tennis team rolled to an 8-1 win over No. 30 Stevens on Monday to improve to 8-1 on the season in the first of three Spring Break week matches in Florida.

“The men's team played well,” UT Tyler coach Joe Vann said. “We came out with good energy and we where hitting the ball well. Even when some of our guys got down today we were able to rally together as a team and finish strong.”

Arthur Fagundes earned a 6-1, 6-3 first singles win and is now 6-0 this season in singles play, while he partnered with Jose McIntyre for an 8-3 first doubles win. It was the first time Fagundes and McIntyre teamed together and came with the Patriots also getting a second doubles win from Pablo Gomez and Joey Fischer who are now 8-1 in doubles play this year.

Vinicio Hadlich would earn a 6-2, 6-3 second singles win, Daniel Rodriguez a 6-1, 6-0 third singles victory and Gomez took a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 fourth singles win. Fischer was a 6-7, 6-1, 10-7 fifth singles winner and McIntyre took a 6-4, 6-3 sixth singles win for the Patriots who swept through singles action for the impressive win.

McIntyre is now 7-0 and Rodriguez 7-2 in singles play after their wins on Monday, while UT Tyler improved to 22-5 in doubles play through nine matches.

Stevens fell to 2-5 with the loss to the Patriots.

“We have big matches tomorrow and Wednesday,” Vann said. “I really believe this is a great start for us and I look forward to the rest of the week.”

UT Tyler will return to action on Tuesday against Amherst before playing Kenyon College on Wednesday in Florida.
