RECAP: @patriotstennis cruises to wins at Austin College

SHERMAN – The UT Tyler tennis teams went on the road and swept a pair of non-conference matches against Austin College with the women earning a 9-0 win and the men an 8-1 decision at the Russell Tennis Center.

The men’s team improve to 6-1 on the season after also earning a 9-0 win over Concordia on Friday in American Southwest Conference play, while the women are now 4-3 following the win over the Roos and Tornados this weekend.

Arthur Fagundes improved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-3 first singles win on Saturday against Austin College, while Vinicio Hadlich took a 7-6, 6-3 second singles win. Fagundes and Hadlich would fall 8-6 in first doubles for the only UT Tyler loss of the day and are now 5-2 as a team this season. Daniel Rodriguez secured a 6-4, 6-2 third singles win, Pablo Gomez a 6-0, 6-1 fourth singles victory and Joey Fischer a 6-2, 6-2 fifth singles win. Jose McIntyre made it a perfect day in singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 sixth singles win. Fischer and Gomez are now 6-1 as partners this season after an 8-4 second doubles win and Gabriel Hidalgo and McIntyre secured an 8-6 win to move to 5-1 as a team.

The UT Tyler women were undefeated on Saturday with Alexis Arrieta and Tori Musngi improving to 5-2 on the season with an impressive 8-0 first doubles result against the Roos. Arrieta would also take a 6-3, 6-3 first singles victory and Musngi a 6-0, 6-1 second singles win to move to 4-1 in singles play this season. Lauren Kuhn was a 6-2, 6-0 third singles winner, Nancy Perez earned a 7-6, 6-4 fourth singles victory and Savannah Seely and Victoria Kniffen also rolled to wins.

Kuhn and Perez are now 4-0 as partners after earning an 8-3 second doubles victory and Alexandra McKissick and Seely also earned an 8-3 win. McKissick and Seely also won on Friday against Concordia in third doubles in their first match together.

The UT Tyler tennis teams are away from competition next week with the women set to return to action on Tuesday, March 7 against Swarthmore in a neutral-court match in Waco before both programs host Doane College on Thursday, March 9 at the Summers Tennis Center.
