RECAP: @patriotstennis men down UTPB in non-conference match

TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s tennis team rolled to its third straight win by taking an 8-1 non-conference win over Texas-Permian Basin on Friday at the Summers Tennis Center, while the women’s team fell 5-4 against the NCAA Division II Falcons.

Arthur Fagundes and Vinicio Hadlich improved to 4-0 on the season in first doubles after taking an 8-4 win over Jordan Minjoot and Raul Stevens on their home court and Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez also improved to 4-0 for the Patriots with an 8-2 second doubles win. The Patriots swept doubles action with Gabriel Hidalgo and Jose McIntyre taking a 9-7 win over UTPB.

Fagundes would also improve to 3-0 in singles play after earning a 6-0, 6-1 first singles victory over Stevens, while Daniel Rodriguez, Gomez, Fischer and McIntyre also earned singles wins for the Patriots who improved to 3-1 on the season.

The UT Tyler women would sweep the Falcons in doubles action, but drop the match with Savannah Seely being the only singles player to win her match. Seely would take a 7-6, 7-5 win in fourth singles after the Patriots had a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Alexis Arrieta and Tori Musngi took their first doubles partnership to a 3-1 record with an 8-6 win over Andrea Villalobos and Eugenia Sanchez, while Lauren Kuhn and Nancy Perez also took an 8-6 second doubles win and Victoria Kniffen and Seely secured an 8-3 win.

UT Tyler returns to action at 10 a.m. with a match against Millsaps and the men’s team will complete a three-match weekend with a 6 p.m. showdown against Tyler Junior College at The Cascades.
