COLLEGE STATION – UT Tyler sophomore Arthur Fagundes carried his momentum from a strong fall season into the spring by winning first singles and first doubles matches on Sunday against St. Edward’s as the Patriots opened the season at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

UT Tyler started the day with two doubles wins with Fagundes and Vinicio Hadlich earning an 8-6 first doubles victory over Chase Bartlett/Charlie Shin while Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez took an 8-4 second doubles win for the Patriots who led 2-1 going into singles play. Jose McIntyre would open his season with a 7-5, 6-0 sixth singles win for the second UT Tyler singles victory.

“We played well today,” UT Tyler head coach Joe Vann said. “There are some things that we still need to work on as far as singles goes, but the energy was good. We work on those few key things and I see us having a great season.”

Fagundes, who advanced to the ITA national tournament in the fall by winning the regional tournament, started his spring season with a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win to improve to 17-6 in his career in singles play.
