TYLER – Arthur Fagundes advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Southwest Regional Championship after earning two wins in Singles Championship Draw play and Pablo Gomez and Joey Fischer advanced to the doubles finals with a pair of wins over teams from Trinity on Sunday at the Summers Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Fischer and Gomez will play for the regional title on Monday after running through their side of the bracket as the fifth seed. The UT Tyler partnership opened with a 9-7 and 8-1 wins in their first matches on Saturday before securing an 8-4 quarterfinal win on Sunday over Mayer/Niess (Trinity) and then an 8-6 semifinal victory over Bilsbarrow/Crawley of Trinity.

Gomez and Fischer will take on Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer of Trinity in the finals after the Tiger partnership knocked out Fagundes and Hadlich in a semifinal matchup.

The top-seeded player in the tournament, Fagundes will play at 8 a.m. on Monday at the STC against Southwestern’s Alexis Dimanche for a berth into the title match. The regional tournament winner advances to the ITA National Championships. Fagundes, a sophomore from Brazil who was last year’s ITA West Region Rookie of the Year, made quick work of his Sunday competition with a 6-1, 6-3 third-round win over Liam Crawely (Trinity) in his first match and then a 6-2, 6-0 win over sixth-seeded Jordan Pitts from Trinity.

Vinicio Hadlich advanced to the fourth round of the ITA regional with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over Clayton Neiss in Sunday’s morning match but would be eliminated with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Chaz Mayer (Trinity) in the fourth round. A sophomore transfer from Brazil, Hadlich was the second seeded player in singles play. Joey Fischer would drop his third-round matchup, 6-2, 6-4, to UMHB’s Scott Widling.

The Fagundes-Dimanche winner will face the McKenna Fujitani (Trinity)-Mayer winner following a short break between the semifinal matches.
