@patriotstennis to compete at NCAA tournament in California

TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis programs are heading to Claremont, California to compete in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships this weekend after earning automatic bids by winning the American Southwest Conference Championship tournaments.

The men’s team (17-9) is making its ninth straight regional appearance and will open against Whitman(19-8), while the Patriot women will be making their eighth regional appearance and play Trinity (14-9) in the opening round at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The NCAA Division III selection committees selected 43 men’s teams and 49 on the women’s side that will compete in the 2016 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second and third rounds played at regional sites, May 13-15. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 23-25 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 11.
