McIntrye, Fagundes notch two wins for @patriotstennis against No. 12 Trinity

SAN ANTONIO – The No. 32-ranked UT Tyler men’s tennis team battled to the end but took a 5-4 loss to No. 12 Trinity on Friday at the Pitman Tennis Courts.

Arthur Fagundes and Jose McIntyre earned singles wins for the Patriots (14-8) in the non-conference match against he Tigers, while Fagundes and Frankie Fischer teamed up for a first doubles win and McIntyre and Daniel Budd earned a second doubles win for the Patriots.

Fagundes would earn a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 second singles match over Chas Mayer to improve to 13-5 on the season, while he’s now 7-5 with Fischer after they partnered up for an 8-4 first doubles win. Budd and McIntyre improved to 13-2 on the season as a team with an 8-4 second doubles win, while McIntyre took his singles record to 13-4 with a 6-1, 6-1 fifth singles win over Trinity’s Clayton Niess.

UT Tyler will finish off the regular season with a 1 p.m. match against Whitman College on Saturday back at Trinity University. The Patriots will have a week off from competition before playing at the American Southwest Conference Championship which will be hosted at Texas-Dallas from Thursday, April 28-30 in Richardson.
