UT Tyler tennis takes wins over ETBU, Ozarks

TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis teams swept their final home matches of the season with both teams earning 9-0 wins over Ozarks on Saturday before heading to Marshall where the men would complete another 9-0 win over ETBU while the women’s dual match was suspended due to weather. The Patriots lead the match 4-3 and it will be completed this week at a time and day to be announced.

The Patriot men improved to 14-7 on the season and to 5-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the pair of wins. UT Tyler opened the day with a 9-0 win over Ozarks at the Summers Tennis Center with Daniel Budd, Arthur Fagundes, Ryan Elwood and Jack Puckey each earning singles wins. There were only four singles matches played and only two doubles matches. In doubles action, Budd and Jose McIntyre earned an 8-6 first doubles win and Pablo Gomez and Joey Fischer took an 8-2 second doubles win. At ETBU, Budd would win the 51st singles match of his career with a 6-4, 6-3 first singles win, while Fagundes secured a 6-1, 6-0 second singles win.

Budd and McIntyre won an 8-5 first doubles win, while Gomez and Joey Fischer won an 8-2 second doubles match and Ryan Elwood and Jack Puckey won an 8-3 third doubles match. Joey Fischer, McIntyre and Elwood each secured singles wins. Budd, who now has 52 doubles wins in his career, is now 11-5 in singles play this season and is tied for the fifth most singles wins in program history. Fagundes improved to 12-5 with his singles win, while Elwood is 7-1 in singles play following the win at ETBU. Elwood was named the ASC Player of the Week on Tuesday.

In their final home match of the season, the UT Tyler women cruised to its 9-0 win by barely dropping a single set. Mary Alice Blacketer and Tori Musngi helped get the Patriots going with an 8-0 first doubles win, while Alexandra McKissick and Nicole Musngi took an 8-0 second doubles victory followed by Lauren Kuhn and Kaitlyn Huskey downing their opponents by the 8-0 score also.

Blacketer would cruise to a 6-0, 6-0 first singles win, while Kuhn took a 6-2, 6-3 second singles victory. The Patriots would also get a 6-1, 6-1 third singles win from Savannah Seely and Nancy Perez won a 6-0, 6-0 fourth singles match. The sweep was completed with Shelby Hart earning a 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles victory and Tijana Neskovic a 6-1, 6-0 sixth singles win.
