SAN ANTONIO – The No. 29-ranked UT Tyler men’s tennis team suffered its second loss of the season to No. 19 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday at the Delavan Tennis Stadium in a 5-4 decision to start a three-match weekend for the Patriots.

UT Tyler (11-6) also dropped a 5-4 match to GAU on its California trip in mid-March and is now 2-6 away from the Summers Tennis Center this season. The Patriots will return to action at 9 a.m. on Sunday against Washington University-St. Louis back at Trinity University’s home court before traveling down the road to play Texas Lutheran at 3 p.m. in Seguin to wrap up the weekend.

Frankie Fischer and Jose McIntyre produced the Patriots’ only doubles victory of the day with a tough-fought 9-7 first doubles win. Fischer and McIntyre are now 2-0 as a team this season. Daniel Budd would secure the 48th singles win of his career with a 6-2, 3-6, 2-1 (retired) victory over Andres Saenz on Saturday and is now 48-25 all-time in singles play. He would earn that win after he and doubles partner Arthur Fagundes took an 8-4 third doubles loss.

Pablo Gomez improved to 8-4 in singles play with a 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 fourth singles win, while Ryan Elwood secured a sixth singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 decision. Elwood is now 4-1 in his junior season, while Fagundes fell to 9-4 in singles play after taking a 6-2, 7-5 first singles loss.

UT Tyler will return home from their San Antonio/Seguin road trip to host Ozarks next Saturday in its final match at the Summers Tennis Center this season.
