RICHARDSON, Texas – The UT Tyler men's tennis team went 10-0 in American Southwest Conference play to clinch the regular season title and the right to host the 2014 ASC Tennis Championships Friday-Sunday (April 25-27) at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler.

Texas-Tyler (10-0, 20-3) has won five of the last six ASC Championships and enters the tournament winning 13 of its last 14 matches. The Patriots are the only ASC men's team to win at least 20 matches overall in each of the last two seasons. Texas-Tyler will get a first round bye and play the winner of No. 4 Hardin Simmons (7-3, 10-10) and No. 5 LeTourneau (7-3, 13-6) in the semifinal round Saturday.

In the women's tournament, Texas-Tyler (10-0, 17-5) finished the season winning a team record 13 consecutive matches and recorded 10 shutout wins en route to the regular season title. The Patriots will get a first round bye and play the winner of No. 4 Hardin Simmons (6-4, 7-11) and No. 5 LeTourneau (5-5, 8-11) in the semifinal round Saturday.

The Texas-Dallas men's and women's teams return as the defending ASC Champions. The Comet men (7-2, 9-5) and women (8-1, 9-4) each upset top-seeded Texas-Tyler in the championship match snapping a five-year run of Patriot championships.

Both the Texas-Dallas men and women get a first round bye. The Comet men will play the winner of No. 3 Ozarks (7-3, 10-4) and No. 6 Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-5, 6-6). The Comet women will play the winner of No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor (8-1, 10-4) and No. 6 Howard Payne (4-6, 5-10). Both matches will be played in the semifinal round Saturday.

The hosting rights of the ASC Championships – which feature both the men and women – rotate each year. In even years the men's No. 1 seed will host and in odd years the women's No. 1 seed would host.

This year's ASC Championship marks the 18th in league history dating back to 1997. In the men's tournament, Hardin Simmons leads with seven conference championships including six consecutive (2002-07). Hardin-Simmons also leads the women's tournament with nine league titles including seven consecutive (2001-07). The Texas-Tyler men's and women's teams have won five of the last six ASC Championships. Hardin Simmons (16) and Texas-Tyler (10) rank first and second, respectively, in number of combined conference championships.

Mississippi College is ineligible for participation in ASC Championship Tournaments in sports where the conference holds an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship due to its ineligibility for the national tournament as a Division II reclassification candidate. In men's tennis, the Choctaws (6-4, 11-5) finish ASC play in sixth place and the Lady Choctaws (7-3, 11-6) finish ASC play in fourth place in the final ASC standings.

The men's and women's ASC champions will each earn the conference's automatic bids into their respective NCAA Division III Tennis Championships.

The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Championship will be held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. The NCAA team selections will be released May 5 with the individual selections coming May 7.
