Men's Tennis Dominates 2011 All-ASC Teams

RICHARDSON, Texas -- UT Tyler junior Joshua Chavez was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Most Valuable Player and coach Chris Bizot was tabbed the Division’s Coach of the Year to highlight the 2011 ASC men’s tennis awards as voted on by the league’s 13 head coaches, the league office announced Wednesday.

Chavez, a native of Harlingen, Texas (Prairie View A&M), earned the title of East Division MVP after going 13-6 overall and 5-0 in division play at No. 1 singles. He helped guide the Patriots to conference and division titles.

Chavez was the All-East Division selection at No. 1 singles and a first team All-Conference and All-Division pick at No. 1 doubles with teammate Andrew Reznik.

Also appearing on the All-Conference Team in singles were Patriots Henrique Bellini (No. 2), Adam Chirhart (No. 3), Kevin Wright (No. 4), and Kevin Singer (No. 5).

Bellini was named the Division’s Freshman of the Year while Wright was selected as the Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.

In doubles, UT Tyler’s Singer and Wright (No. 3) joined Chavez and Reznik in receiving All-Conference honors. Edward Timponi of Texas-Tyler was an at-large selection as a member of the ASC champion team.

The Patriots, who won their eight-straight division and fourth-straight conference titles, swept the All-East Division First Team honors.
