AWARDS: Three @patriot_msoccer players earn all-region

TYLER – Ryan Brinda, Lucas Pereira and Leandro Cid-Fernandez were named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-West Region first-team for their contributions for the UT Tyler Patriots who won 11 games and advanced to the NCAA postseason for the fourth time in program history.

Cid-Fernandez and Pereira are now three-time all-region selections for the Patriots, while Brinda earns the honor for the first time in his career. All three players were American Southwest Conference first-team selections.

A senior from Argentina, Cid-Fernandez finished his career as the all-time leading goal-scorer in program history with 36 goals. He had six goals and three assists in his senior season and was named the ASC Midfielder of the Year for the third straight season. He scored two goals in a home win over UT Dallas and the game-winning goal to highlight his senior season.

A junior from Spain, Pereira led the Patriots with 11 goals and four assists in his junior season. He scored his final goal of the season in the NCAA tournament against Trinity and also had a three-goal performance against East Texas Baptist and two assists against UTD on his season’s resume. Pereira, who was a two-time ASC Offensive Player of the Week, has scored 23 goals and has nine assists in his three seasons with the Patriots were he has earned all-region after each season.

Brinda established himself as one of the top defenders in the region during his junior season where the Patriots had 11 shutouts. Brinda and the Patriot defense limited opponents to 66 shots on goal through 18 games. A junior from Coppell, Brinda is a two-time all-conference selection and earned one ASC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
