TYLER – A tie game at halftime quickly turned into a UT Tyler rout with Mark Guevara, Erik Macias and Caio Godinho scoring unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes of play to give the Patriots a 5-2 win over LeTourneau on Saturday at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (7-2-3, 6-1-1 ASC) extended their unbeaten streak to four and are now 5-0-1 on their home field this season, while the YellowJackets fell to 2-6-4 overall this season. UT Tyler is in second place in the ASC standings and will return to action at 3 p.m. next Saturday when it hosts Ozarks in its final home game of the regular season.

LeTourneau struck first in the game with Eduardo Barron scoring in the 10th minute before Leandro Cid-Fernandez scored on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1 in the 25th. Just a minute later, Lucas Pereira gave the Patriots a goal advantage but once again it was tied when Alec Wier scored in the 26th minute for the YellowJackets.

A 2-2 game would extend to the 76th minute before Guevara found himself in front of an empty net after a Cid-Fernandez shot deflected off the keeper. The game-winning goal was the first of the career for the freshman from Houston and was quickly followed by Macias who scored in the 77th minute off the second assist of the season from Cid-Fernandez. The three-goal margin was finalized in the 85th minute with Godinho striking for his second goal of the season and the third of his career.

Cid-Fernandez scored his program-leading 36th goal of his career and the sixth of his senior season, while Pereira followed his hat trick on Thursday against East Texas Baptist with the eighth goal of his season which leads the team.

UT Tyler goalkeeper John McGuffin made three saves in the win and now has 34 in his senior season.
