TYLER – Lucas Pereira recorded the sixth hat trick in UT Tyler men’s soccer history to help lead the Patriots to a 4-0 win over East Texas Baptist on Thursday at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (6-2-3, 5-1-1 ASC) remain in second in the American Southwest Conference standings and are now 4-0-1 on their home field this season. ETBU fell to 0-6 in conference play with the Patriots earning their seventh shutout of the season.

A junior from Spain, Pereira scored his first two goals of the game on free kicks in the first half and his third in the opening moments of the second half. He gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead with a laser in the 30th minute and then a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute. His third came on a breakaway where he hit the right post and got the friendly deflection for the 3-0 lead. He joins teammate Leandro Cid-Fernandez, Kevin Gansert, Timothy Moyer and Brandon Morris as UT Tyler players to secure three-goal performances in their career. Morris is the only player with two hat tricks on their resume.

UT Tyler would dominate the game and put its fourth goal on the board with Giovanni Castillo taking a pass from Samuel Huerta with 33 seconds remaining to play and getting it past the ETBU goalkeeper. It was the first goal of Castillo’s career and Huerta’s first assist this season.

The Patriots finished the game with a 5-2 shots on goal advantage with goalkeeper John McGuffin making both saves.

UT Tyler returns to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday by hosting LeTourneau at the Perkins Soccer Complex.
