TYLER – A Leandro Cid-Fernandez header was saved with one second left on the clock to end a scoreless draw between the UT Tyler men’s soccer team and McMurry on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference game at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

Cid-Fernandez took a perfect cross from Erik Macias who had raced down the ball to give the Patriots one more opportunity, but McMurry’s Alex Chavez recorded his sixth save of the game to end the 110-minute contest at 0-0 for the third UTT draw of the season.

The Patriots (5-2-3, 4-1-1 ASC) were shutout for only the third time this year despite owning a 6-2 shots on goal advantage against the War Hawks (4-4-2, 1-2-1 ASC).

UT Tyler goalkeeper John McGuffin recorded his fifth shutout of the season with the defense allowing only two shots on goal against him. A senior goalkeeper, McGuffin has made 29 saves and allowed only six goals all year.

The Patriots offense had 22 total shots against McMurry with Lucas Pereira having six and Cid-Fernandez adding five more. The two top goal scorers for the Patriots had three shots on goal each, while Macias added three shots and Caio Godinho and Akon N’Guetta had two shots each. UT Tyler finished with 10 shots in each half and the had one shot per overtime period.

The only shot on goal in the 20 minutes of overtime was Cid-Fernandez’s header with one second remaining on the clock.

UT Tyler will now take 12 days away from competition before hosting East Texas Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 12 and LeTourneau on Oct. 14 at the Perkins Soccer Complex.
