TYLER – UT Tyler earned a 2-0 win over Hardin-Simmons on Thursday with goals from Lucas Pereira and Leandro Cid-Fernandez and the Patriot defense pitching their fifth shutout of the season at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (5-2-2, 4-1-0 ASC) limited the Cowboys (2-2-1, 1-1-1 ASC) to only two shots, both of which were saved by goalkeeper John McGuffin who played all 90 minutes in goal behind a team that owned a 12-6 shot advantage.

Pereira scored the fourth goal of his junior season to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play before Cid-Fernandez struck in the 80th minute to seal the win. Cid-Fernandez now has 35 career goals which extends his UT Tyler all-time record. Pereira and Cid-Fernandez each had two shots on goal, while Jose Poo had one for the Patriots who are now 3-0 on their home field.

UT Tyler will return to action at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday against McMurry back at the Perkins Soccer Complex before stepping away from competition for 12 days.
