ROUND ROCK – UT Tyler senior Leandro Cid-Fernandez became the all-time leading goal-scorer in program history by scoring the third Patriot goal in a 3-1 win over Concordia on Thursday in an American Southwest Conference battle at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

Cid-Fernandez, a midfielder from Argentina, scored the 34th goal of his record-setting career in the 85th minute of play after Lucas Pereira scored in the 17th minute and then defender Chris Stamm struck for the first goal of his career and the game-winner in the 81st minute.

The No. 17-ranked Patriots (4-1-2, 3-0 ASC) handed the Tornados (5-1, 2-1 ASC) their first loss of the season with goalkeeper John McGuffin recording four saves in the win.

Pereira, a junior from Spain, now has three goals and three assists this season after getting past the CTX goalkeeper to give the Patriots a quick lead. After a penalty kick goal tied the game, it was tied for 13 minutes before Stamm took a pass from Cid-Fernandez and snuck the ball past the goalkeeper to give the Patriots a lead. Just four minutes later, Cid-Fernandez made UT Tyler history and put the final touch on the third straight win for the Patriots who entered the United Coaches top-25 poll on Tuesday.

Cid-Fernandez, who was named ASC Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in his career on Monday, has now scored all four of his goals this season in the past three games to open ASC play and passes former UT Tyler player Barrett Browning on the all-time goals scored list. Browning scored 33 in the first two seasons of UT Tyler soccer in 2002 and 2003 for the record that held up until Cid-Fernandez scored in the 84th minute on Thursday. His road to the record started with nine goals as a freshman and sophomore before scoring 12 last year as a junior. A two-time ASC Midfielder of the Year and all-region selection, Cid-Fernandez is also fourth in program history with 12 assists along with owning the all-time points record with 80 after his goal and assist against CTX.

UT Tyler will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
