TYLER -- The UT Tyler men's soccer team defeated American Southwest Conference opponent Schreiner 2-0 on Saturday night in the final-game of the regular season. Freshman Kevin Hernandez and junior James Winkler scored the goals for the Patriots.
UT Tyler ( 11-5-1, 8-3-1) and Schreiner played tough throughout most of the first half, until Hernandez broked the scoreless tie in the 27th-minute.
On a night where the seniors were honored, it was the underclassmen who stole the show.
In the 39th-minute, Winkler scored his first goal of the season, giving the Patriots the 2-0 lead that would hold up the rest of the way.
For the match, the Patriots out-shot Schreiner 10-6, and 7-2 in shots-on-goal.
Winkler finished with two shots, both of which were on-goal while Jose Barron finished with two shots with one on-goal.
Junior Sergio Gardea finished with two saves in-goal for the Patriots.
The UT Tyler men will now head to Clinton, Missippippi, site of the 2012 ASC Conference Championships next weekend.
