TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s soccer team will return from a 12-day break from competition by hosting East Texas Baptist (4-6-1, 0-5-0 ASC) on Thursday and LeTourneau (2-5-3, 2-2-1 ASC) on Saturday in a pair of American Southwest Conference games at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots (5-2-3, 4-1-1 ASC) are currently 3-0-1 on their home field after playing to a scoreless draw against McMurry in its last game back on Sept. 30. UT Tyler is currently regionally ranked at No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches poll in the West and is second in the ASC standings behind Mary Hardin-Baylor which is 8-0. The Cru earned a 2-0 win over the Patriots in their only conference loss on Sept. 23 in Belton.

Leandro Cid-Fernandez leads the Patriots with five goals this season and is the program’s all-time leader with 35 career goals and 82 points. A senior from Argentina, Cid-Fernandez didn’t score in the first four games of the season but broke through with two goals in a win over UT Dallas and then scored against Howard Payne, Concordia and Hardin-Simmons in conference wins. UT Tyler junior Lucas Pereira is second on the team with four goals and leads with three assists through 10 games. A midfielder from Spain, Pereira scored the game-winner against HSU and had two assists in the win over UTD. He also has goals against Redlands, Puget Sound and Concordia and now has 16 in his career. A two-time all-region selection along with Cid-Fernandez, Pereira has eight assists in 44 career games.

Akon N’Guetta has added two goals, both coming against HPU, while Caio Godinho, Jose Poo, Alfonso Ochoa and Chris Stamm scoring one goal each for the Patriots who own a 15-6 goal advantage over their opponents this season.

UT Tyler senior goalkeeper John McGuffin has six shutouts and has recorded 29 saves this season, including a season-best six saves in the loss at UMHB. The defense has helped McGuffin this season by limiting the opposition to two or fewer shots on goal in six games, including two shots on goal in the scoreless draw against McMurry.

UT Tyler will play its final home game next weekend when it hosts Ozarks on Saturday, Oct. 21 before finishing the regular season at Belhaven (Oct. 26) and Louisiana College (Oct. 28).
