TYLER – Leandro Cid-Fernandez matched the all-time UT Tyler career goals record with the first goal of the game and the Patriots just kept scoring as they took a 5-0 win over Howard Payne on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference game at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

Cid-Fernandez scored off a perfect pass from Caio Godinho in the 14th minute for his 33rd career goal which matches Barrett Browning who had 33 from 2002-03 for the Patriots. The quick 1-0 lead would stay close for the remainder of the first half with the teams going to halftime with that margin before UT Tyler exploded with two goals from Akon N’Guetta and one from Alfonso Ochoa and Jose Poo. The Patriots are now 2-0 in ASC play after opening with a 2-0 win over UT Dallas on Thursday in Tyler.

UT Tyler goalkeeper John McGuffin did not face a single shot in the first 45 minutes of play and then Giancarlo Ayanegui played the final 45 where he was only required to make one save to preserve the team’s third shutout of the season.

N’Guetta, a senior from the Ivory Coast who is in his third season at UT Tyler, now has five career goals after his first two-goal performance. He gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 48th minute and then capped scoring with an 82nd minute goal. Ochoa, who transferred from Tyler Junior College, scored his first goal at UTT off an assist from Rolando Hernandez and was followed by Poo who struck in the 70th minute off an assist from Brian Cassady.

UT Tyler has now outscored its opponents by a 10-3 margin through six games going into a pair of ASC road games next week at Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
