SAN ANTONIO – The UT Tyler men’s soccer team took a 1-1 draw against Our Lady of the Lake on Sunday with sophomore Caio Godinho scoring the goal for the Patriots in the 27th minute of play at the OLLU Soccer Field.

The Patriots are 1-0-1 to start the season after earning 1-0 win over No. 7-ranked Redlands on Friday in its first of two games in San Antonio during the season-opening weekend.

“They were a tough team that gave us a tough away game,” UT Tyler head coach Kenny Jones said. “It was a good opportunity for us to see a lot of guys play. I think this will help our development and growth.”

Godinho, a sophomore from Brazil, was assisted by Lucas Pereira while OLLU evened the game two minutes into the second half. Godinho now has two goals in his career after scoring one last season, while Pereira has six assists. A junior from Spain, Pereira scored the game-winner against Redlands before assisting on Godinho’s goal on Sunday.

UT Tyler senior goalkeeper John McGuffin who record five saves for the Patriots and now has 135 saves in his career. Leandro Cid-Fernandez led the Patriots with three shots in the game, while Alfonso Ochoa had two and Kendrick Crawford II, Samuel Huerta, Brian Cassady and Uriah Shipman had one each.

UT Tyler will continue a four-game road trip to open the season next weekend with a trip to Tacoma, Washington where it will play Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound. The Patriots will open the Washington trip against PLU on Friday before playing at Puget Sound on Saturday. The team will then return to Texas to play its home and American Southwest Conference opener on Thursday, Sept. 14 against UT Dallas.
