
ROUND ROCK, TX -- The University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team had a great third round at the prestigious West Region Invitational, posting a second-best score of 306 and leaping into third place. Coy Beck also finished in a tie for second from the Patriots.
UT Tyler sat in fifth place after the first two rounds, but their strong final round score of 306 vaulted them past California Lutheran and University of the Redlands and into third place.
Beck (FR/Canyon Lake, TX) posted a strong 75 in the final round to vault himself into a tie for second place in the tournament. Beck finished one stroke behind the winner finishing with a 72-75-75-222. Drew Johnson (SR/Corsicana, TX) shot a 77-80-74-231 for a tie for fourteenth, and Dean Rodgers (SR/Lake Jackson, TX) finished in twenty-second place with a 79-74-81-234.
In the tournament, the Patriots (304-310-306-920) trailed only the University of LaVerne (302-302-300), who won, and Texas Lutheran (301-308-307-916) who finished four strokes ahead. UT Tyler finished ahead of other American Southwest Conference schools McMurry (311-310-308-929), LeTourneau (318-305-316-939), Mary Hardin-Baylor (322-302-318-942), Hardin-Simmons (322-321-317-960), UT Dallas (319-329-337-985), and Concordia (343-349-349-1041).
The Patriots will wind up their season April 15-17 at LeTourneau.
