Men's Golf Still in Hunt for National Title; Women at 18th

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.– The University of Texas at Tyler men’s and women’s golf teams finished the third day of the 2009 NCAA Division Golf Championships at fourth and eighteenth places, respectively, on Friday at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie.

The men shot a 293 on the day to move up one spot from fifth to fourth place. Senior Brian Jennings (Bullard, Texas) used seven birdies on the day to shoot a team-low 69. Jennings’ three-under-par round vaulted him from 36th to fifth on the individual leaderboard.

The Patriots will enter Saturday’s final round nine strokes behind third place La Verne and 15 strokes back from current leaders Methodist. Individually, Jennings will enter just six strokes off of the current leader, Michell Fedorka of La Verne.

At the women’s event, the Patriots shot a 345 to finish in 18th place for the third consecutive day. Sophomore Katie Harris (Salado, Texas) led UT Tyler for the second day in a row, firing a team-low round of 84.

Both UT Tyler teams will return to the links at the PGA Village on Saturday for the final day of the Championships. The men will close out the tournament on the Dye course, while the women will once again play the Wanamaker course.
