LONGVIEW – UT Tyler freshman Hayden Montoya will take the lead into the final round of the Pinecrest Intercollegiate after shooting a 3-under-par 70-69 – 139 during Monday’s 36 holes at the Pinecrest Country Club.

Montoya has a two-stroke lead over Josh Meeks who carded a 1-under in his two round for Bethany College. A Longview native, Montoya won the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial Tournament in Tyler back in September at Hollytree Country Club for the Patriots.

UT Tyler is in third place out of 11 at the tournament where the Patriots are playing as a “B Team”. The “A Team” which is No. 1 in the nation will be playing in Jekyll Island, Georgia this weekend which is giving more players an opportunity to play this week in the LeTourneau event.

Jeff Murphy is taking advantage of that opportunity and is currently tied for 17th after shooting 74-77 – 151, while senior DJ Godoy is tied for 24th with a 76-77 – 153 scorecard. Alex Brandt is 35th (156) and Payton Capps 40th after finishing with a two-round total of 157.

Bethany College will go into Tuesday’s final round with the team lead with a 580, while Tyler Junior College shot a 299-287 – 586 and is second just ahead of the UT Tyler B Team which shot 300-299 – 599 as a team.
