CHAMP: Uhlig wins first tournament of season for @UTTylerMensGolf

AUSTIN – UT Tyler junior Tyler Uhlig shot 3-under-par to win the Linda Lowery Invitational at River Place Country Club, while the Patriots finished second in the team standings after Tuesday’s final round was completed.


The No. 1-ranked Patriots finished the 18-hole tournament with a 300-297 – 597, falling behind tournament host Concordia’s 294-292 – 586 which won the first tournament of the spring season.

A Magnolia native who transferred from McLennan College, Uhlig won the first tournament of his career after shooting a 67-72 – 139 to hold off Concordia’s Clayton King who fired a 66 in his final round but fell one shot back on the leaderboard with a 74-66 – 140 total. Uhlig, who had finished as The Tournament Town Preview runner-up in the fall, finished with eight birdies in his two rounds compared to only three bogeys throughout the 36 holes. UT Tyler senior Sam Hill came in fourth-place with a tournament total of 76-71 – 147 where he had 21 pars on his scorecard with six birdies. Trystan Perkins had the third-best score for the Patriots with a 77-78 – 155. Rounding out the team was Hayden Montoya’s 80-76 – 156 and Harris Butler’s 80-79 – 159. Hill has now recorded top-10 finishes in all five tournaments this season for the Patriots.

Concordia won the tournament with Southwestern coming in third (615). Following them were Concordia B (617) and Texas Lutheran (624) in the 18-team event.

The Linda Lowery Invitational was the first tournament of the spring season for the Patriots after coming off a three-win fall season. The team will travel to Longview for the YellowJacket Spring Invitational on March 12th and 13th in Longview before heading to Jekyll Island, Georgia for the Jekyll Island Collegiate, a three-day tournament from March 16-18.
