PREVIEW: @UTTylerMensGolf opens Spring this week in Austin

TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s golf team travels to Austin on Monday to compete in the Linda Lowery Invitational for their first tournament of the spring season. The tournament is a two-day, 36-hole event on February 26-27 at River Place Country Club and the Patriots will be represented by Sam Hill, Tyler Uhlig, Trystan Perkins, Harris Butler and Hayden Montoya.

The team comes into the year as the No. 1 team in the national rankings and look to make their seventh appearance at the NCAA DIII Championship after a third-place finish last season. The Patriots finished the fall season having won three out of five tournaments and look to continue that success this spring.

“I’m excited for our group of guys, they’ve worked hard to get where we are right now with the top national ranking,” UT Tyler coach Michael McMunn said. “We have prepared as well as we can and are just ready to get out and play some golf.”

The Patriots return Ping All-American and ASC All-Conference player in Hill who returns for his senior year after being a Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award Semifinalist. The Patriots have tournaments scheduled in Longview, Austin, Jekyll (GA), and Greensboro (NC).

This week’s event in Austin consists of tournament host Concordia, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Birmingham Southern, Southwestern, Hardin-Simmons, Texas Lutheran, Webster, Augustana, Willamette, Dallas and Linfield College.
