RECAP: Hill shoots 65 to take lead into final round

SANDESTIN, Fla. – UT Tyler senior Sam Hill shot a career-low round of 65 (6-under) on Monday and is the tournament leader 7-under after 36 of 54 holes at the Golfweek Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Club.

Hill carded six birdies and 12 pars in his second round to take the lead for the Patriots who are in sixth overall in the team standings with a 293-283 – 576 going into Tuesday’s final round. Hill, a senior from Florida, has a 70-65 – 135 on the board which has him two strokes ahead of Huntingdon’s Stephen Shepard and three ahead of Eddy Black (Berry College) and Sam Olson (St. John’s). Hill has three top-10 finishes this season, including a runner-up finish two weeks ago at The Gordin Classic. He will look to win his first tournament as a Patriot on Tuesday in the final fall round of the season.

UT Tyler junior Tyler Uhlig is 21st overall with a 75-69 – 144 two-round total, while George Toone is 28th at the tournament with a 73-72 – 145. Toone is coming off winning The Gordin Classic and made four birdies on Monday. Uhlig made four birdies on Monday and 13 pars, but doubled on No. 3 to drop back a couple of shots. Trystan Perkins is at 75-77 – 152 and DJ Godoy at 81-87 – 168 for the Patriots.

St. Thomas leads the tournament with a 284-278 – 562 total through two rounds, while Illinois Wesleyan (571), Huntingdon (572), Concordia (574) and Emory (575) are ahead of the Patriots going into Tuesday’s final round. UT Tyler was in 11th after the first round before jumping up to sixth and putting its self in position to make a final-round run for the title.
