RECAP: Montoya, Patriots lead Al and Nancy Jones Memorial

TYLER – UT Tyler freshman Hayden Montoya leads the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial at 3-over-par after the opening 36 holes and the Patriots are atop the team standings entering the final 18 on Tuesday at Hollytree Country Club.

Montoya shot a 75-72 – 147 on Monday in the first two rounds, while Nicklaus Cuny shot 78-70 – 148 and Harris Butler a 72-76 – 148 for second. Butler is playing the tournament as an individual along with Jeff Murphy who is fourth overall after the opening two rounds with a 78-72 – 150 (6-over). The Patriots are represented by a “B” team in their home tournament, while the “A” team was on the road where they won the Tournament Town Preview on Monday on the same course in Greensboro, North Carolina where the NCAA Division III Championship will be played in the spring. While they were winning, the “B” team shot a 305-304 – 609 which is ahead of Schreiner which is second with a 320-297 – 617 and California Lutheran at 309-309 – 618.

UT Tyler’s Austin Olsen carded a 73-82 – 155 and is 15th overall, while Payton Capps (79-82) and Brandon Schaffer (81-80) are tied for 29th after a two-round total of 161.

The Patriots will begin teeing off on Hollytree’s No. 1 hole at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the final round.
