RECAP: @UTTylerMensGolf in 5th midway through NCAA tournament

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – UT Tyler juniors George Toone and Sam Hill are tied for 10th and the Patriots are fifth overall after the completion of the second round on Wednesday at the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships at Mission Inn Resort & Club.

UT Tyler played the El Campeon Course on Wednesday after playing Las Colinas on the first day. The Patriots have a 296-305 – 601 score card after two days of play, while Huntingdon College leads the tournament with a 293-291 – 584. UT Tyler is currently 17-over-par in its team score on a day where the field of 42 was cut to 18. The Patriots will start teeing off at 7:45 a.m. (CST) on Thursday and will be paired with Greensboro and Rhodes College. 

Hill is in 10th overall with a 74-73 – 147 after two rounds, while Toone is at 75-72 to get to his 147. Hill had a clean round on Wednesday with 15 pars, a birdie and only two bogeys in his round. Toone shot even-par in his second round with four birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys. Two of his birdies came on par-5s and then one on 3 and 4s. Hill is currently even-par on par-4s.

UT Tyler senior Brandon Rougeau will go into the third round in 44th after a two-round total of 74-78 – 152 for the Patriots, while freshman Trystan Perkins is at 73-82 – 155 and is 76th overall. Cody Gilbert has a 78-83 – 161 at the national tournament.

Addison Lambeth lead the tournament with a 69-71 – 141 for Huntingdon, while Wittenberg’s Cameron Willis (70-73 – 143) and Gulliford’s Josh Hill (71-72 – 143) are tied for second overall after two rounds in Florida. Mary Hardin-Baylor is now sixth overall with a 304-298 – 602 score card. Gulliford is third with a 300-293 – 593 and Greensboro is fourth with a 300-297 -597 which is four shots ahead of the Patriots.
