LUFKIN, Texas-- The No. 2 ranked UT Tyler men's golf team shot out to a 29-stroke lead after the first day of the American Southwest Conference Championships at Crown Colony Country Club on Monday. Mary Hardin-Baylor is currently in second-place after day one.
Senior Jacob Walsh, last year's individual champion, shot a 71 in the first round and a 75 in the second, good enough for the first-day individual lead, to help lead the Patriots, while teammate John Dukes finished two strokes behind with a 148.
The rest of the men, Trent Boudoin (150), Matt Stephens (156) and Joey Rippel (156) all finished in the top-10.
UMHB finished the first day in second place, shooting a combined 624, while LeTourneau (630), Texas-Dallas (632) and Schreiner University (637) rounded out the top-five in team competition.
UT Tyler will try and hang on to capture it's second ASC championship, tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
