    The UT Tyler men’s golf team will enter the 2016-17 season ranked No. 16 in the nation under the direction of new head coach Michael McMunn after the release of the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll on Friday.

    McMunn named UT Tyler men's golf coach

    Michael McMunn has been selected as the fourth men’s golf coach in UT Tyler program history after four years as the men’s and women’s golf coach at Piedmont College. McMunn, an Athens, Alabama native and University of Alabama graduate, led the Lions to their best finish in program history and a No. 36 GolfStat DIII ranking in the 2015-16 season. He takes over a UT Tyler program which finished ranked No. 20 under former head coach Craig McConnell who resigned in May after three years leading the program.

    Alex Trivanovich shot a 1-over-par 73 and is in eighth place to lead the UT Tyler men’s golf team after Sunday’s opening round of the Rhodes College Fall Classic at the Tunica National Golf Course. The Patriots will enter Monday’s final round in a three-way tie for sixth after carding a 302 team total which was matched by Centre College and Emory. Southwestern and Berry College are the opening-round leaders with 288s.

    UT Tyler junior Brandon Rougeau earned a third-place finish at a weather-shortened Flower City Preview and the Patriots finished 12th in the season-opening tournament that was cut to two rounds of play after originally being scheduled for 54 holes. The tournament was completed on Sunday morning after rain halted play during Saturday’s rounds at the par-72 Midvale Country Club where UT Tyler finished with a 309-314 – 623 team total.
