CLINTON, Miss.--The University of Texas at Tyler men’s basketball team had its eight game win streak snapped by Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon in Clinton, 70-60.
The Patriots would start the game by leading for majority of the first half and holding the Choctaws to just a 26 percent shooting percentage in the stanza. But in the second half, Mississippi heated up to shot 52 percent from the floor and sealing their win in the process.
Senior Brandon Weasby (Houston, Texas) led all scorers with 22 points, while junior Marlon Hill (Port Arthur, Texas) added 11 points to UT Tyler’s cause.
With the loss, the Patriots will end their regular season at 14-11 and 13-7 in the East Division of the American Southwest Conference, while the win lifts Mississippi College to 19-5 overall and 16-4 in the ASC East.
UT Tyler will now advance to next weekend’s ASC Tournament in Belton, Texas, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Patriots, the No. 2 seed from the East, will square off against Hardin-Simmons, the No. 3 seed from the West. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
