RECAP: @UTTylerMBB earns OT win over LC

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team earned an 89-85 overtime win over Louisiana College on Saturday in its regular-season finale at the Rapides Coliseum.

The Patriots (17-8, 10-8 ASC) will be the American Southwest Conference East Division fourth seed in next week’s ASC tournament and will open at 7:30 p.m. on Friday against Sul Ross in Alpine. UT Tyler enters the tournament on a two-game winning streak after also knocking off Belhaven on Thursday.

UT Tyler finished off the year with its second overtime win over Louisiana College after also taking a 93-83 win back on Jan. 11 at the Herrington Patriot Center. The Patriots are now 2-0 on the season in overtime with the wins over the Wildcats who had their season end with a 6-17 overall record.

Johnell Lane led the Patriots in the win over LC with 26 points after hitting on six 3-pointers in a game for the third time this season. Lane’s 26 points matches his career-high that he also had at Ozarks and comes after he scored 25 in the win at Belhaven and 22 last Saturday against UT Dallas. Lane went 6-for-15 on 3-pointers and also had seven rebounds. UT Tyler senior Josh Tatum added 18 points and six assists and finishes the regular season with 149 assists which is the UT Tyler single-season record.

Emeka Obukwelu added 14 points and four rebounds, while Chase Mason led the reserves with 13 points after knocking down two 3-pointers and three free throws. UT Tyler finished the game shooting 46.2 percent from the field and with 11 3-pointers. LC was limited to 6-for-22 on 3-pointers.
