TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team fell 97-86 to UT Dallas on Saturday in their regular-season home finale despite knocking down 14 3-pointers and shooting 50 percent from the field at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (15-8, 8-8 ASC) remain in fourth place in the American Southwest Conference East Division standings, while the Comets (13-3 ASC) are third entering the final week of the regular season. UT Tyler, which trailed 56-37 at halftime and fought back to make it a game, finished the regular season with an 8-3 record on its home court and split its season series against UTD.

UT Tyler sophomore Johnell Lane led the Patriots on Saturday with 22 points after going 8-for-10 from the field, including hitting on 5 of 7 shots from beyond the arc. Lane has now hit 55 3-pointers this season and has four games with five or more 3-pointers. Skyler Hadden added 20 points and six rebounds, while Chase Mason scored 16 points after drilling four 3-pointers.

UT Tyler was 14-for-29 on 3-pointers in the game, including getting two from Hadden and Xavier Fogle who scored 11 points.

Emeka Obukwelu added eight points and five rebounds in only his second game of the season not to score in double digits, while Josh Tatum had seven assists and was held to six points.

UT Dallas finished the game shooting 56.3 percent from the field, hit 10 3-pointers and was 15-for-20 as the Comets avenged the loss against the Patriots from the first game. Dimitrius Underwood scored a game-high 29 points after going 10-for-18 from the field and 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. Underwood record a double-double by adding 10 rebounds and Reagan Keough and Caleb Banks each had 13 points.

The Patriots honored Hadden, Tatum, Mason and Melvin Anthony before the game in a senior day ceremony.

UT Tyler will finish off the regular season next week with road games at Belhaven on Thursday and Louisiana College on Saturday.
