TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team lost its only game on its home court this season with a 99-93 American Southwest Conference loss to Concordia on Tuesday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (8-3, 2-3 ASC) are now 4-1 at the HPC, while the Tornados improved to 7-3 overall and evened their conference record at 2-2 after forcing 20 turnovers and going 17-for-18 from the free-throw line on the road. UT Tyler, which never led, finished the game shooting 56.1 percent and matched CTX with eight 3-pointers, but its 20 turnovers turned into 36 points for the Tornados and proved to be too much to overcome.

Josh Tatum came off the bench and led the Patriots with a career-high 22 points after he went 9-for-13 from the field and 3-for-3 at the free-throw line. A senior from Keller, Tatum also led the team with six assists and now 148 assists in his career which is the fifth most in program history. He also has 71 assists through 11 games this season which is just behind his 77 from last year through 26 games. Skyler Hadden also came into the game as a reserve and would score 16 points and had nine rebounds, while Xavier Fogle added 10 points to help give UT Tyler a 53-26 advantage in bench scoring.

Emeka Obukwelu finished the game with 14 points and five rebounds, but also with six turnovers against the Tornados. Obukwelu continued his hot shooting by going 7-for-9 from the field and is now lead the Patriots by shooting 78.8 percent from the field and also with 20.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Melvin Anthony added 13 points, six rebounds and two assists. Johnell Lane hit two 3-pointers and finished with eight points.

Joe Neal led Concordia with a game-high 31 points after going 14-for-20 from the field, while Ephriam Prince III went for 24 points and Ben Page added 18 points. Page was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers and Price, Joshua Samuels and Philip Meikle were all 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

UT Tyler will now have a 10-day break before returning to competition on Friday, Dec. 29 in a non-conference game against Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas before traveling to play at Howard Payne (Jan. 4) and Sul Ross (Jan. 6) in conference play.
