TYLER – Davis Moore drilled a 3-pointer with two minutes remaining to break a tie and spark a 14-5 run to close out the game as UT Tyler earned an 89-80 non-conference win over Colorado College on Sunday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (8-2) improved to 4-0 at home on the season and to 6-0 in non-conference play with the win, while the Tigers (4-5) head back to Colorado after also taking a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference loss at Dallas on Saturday. For UT Tyler, the Patriots are now 2-0 on Sunday afternoon games that have been part of a back-to-back game following an American Southwest Conference win. The Patriots earned a 95-93 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday before taking down the Tigers with 12 3-pointers and another strong shooting performance that had the team at 49.2 at the end of 40 minutes.

Emeka Obukwelu recorded his fifth double-double of the season and led the Patriots with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Moore had a season-high 17 points after going 5-for-7 on 3-pointers and then two free throws in the final 30 seconds to pad the lead. Moore’s fifth 3-pointer of the game came off an assist from Obukwelu and gave the Patriots a 78-75 lead. The shot was followed by Johnell Lane hitting another 3-pointer to give the Patriots at four-point lead and then Josh Tatum getting to the basket and extending the lead to 83-77 with 45 seconds.

Tatum finished the game with five assists and eight points, while Lane hit two 3-pointers and had eight points for the Patriots who were 12-for-27 on 3-pointers against the Tigers. Cameron Frank added seven points and two assists and Chase Mason came off the bench to hit two 3-pointers and completed the game with six points and three assists. Xavier Fogle added five points for the second straight game and Omar Mohamed scored two.

Colorado College was led by John Hatch who went for 29 point and six rebounds, while CooXooEli Black had 23 and Eric Houska 13 points and eight assists. The Tigers shot 31-for-71 from the field, but were only 5-for-18 on 3-pointers and were out-rebounded by a 36-29 margin by the Patriots.

UT Tyler will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday against Concordia at the HPC in their final game before going on a holiday break that will last until a road game on Jan. 29 against Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.
