CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team took a 94-87 loss to Ozarks on Thursday after leading by 16 at halftime but being unable to stop a 20-0 run to start the second half by the Eagles to get back into the game at the Mabee Gymnasium.

UT Tyler will finish the regular season at 3 p.m. on Saturday at UT Dallas (7-8 ASC) in Richardson before competing for a title at the American Southwest Conference Championship which will be held in Longview next week.

The Patriots (15-9, 8-7 ASC) led 53-37 at halftime after shooting 58.8 percent from the field (20-for-34) but would fall behind as the Eagles took a 57-53 lead with the run to start the second half. UT Tyler would respond with a 10-2 run, but Ozarks kept pushing and evened the season series with both home teams winning. The Patriots would shoot 13-for-39 (33.3 percent) in the second half, including going 1-for-14 on 3-pointers. The Eagles flipped the script by going 21-for-32 from the field in the second half and also hit 11 free throws. 

Jordan Francis led the Patriots with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Melvin Anthony had 19 points and eight rebounds in the game. Francis, who shot 11-for-16 from the field, also hit seven free throws in his second-best scoring performance of the season. He had 38 against LeTourneau and would put up his 29 on Thursday along with three assists. Anthony hit two 3-pointers in the game, while Emeka Obukwelu scored 11 points after hitting 5 of 7 shots and Verlo Levels added eight points and Alan Long had nine rebounds to lead the reserves.

Josh Berard led Ozarks with 34 points after going 13-for-20 form the field and Jace Richardson had 20 points for the Eagles who improved to 8-16 overall to 2-13 in ASC play.
