TYLER – With a 9-3 record at home this season, the UT Tyler men’s basketball team will play its final game at the Herrington Patriot Center at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when it hosts Belhaven in a non-conference game. The Patriots will honor its senior class of Deion Robinson, Jordan Francis, Tyler Jacobs, Alan Long, Deon Rodgers and assistant coach Evan Swindle prior to the start of the game.

The Patriots (14-8, 8-6 ASC), who have clinched a postseason berth, are second in the ASC East Division behind LeTourneau (10-4 ASC) and ahead of UT Dallas (5-7 ASC), East Texas Baptist (5-9 ASC) and Louisiana College (4-10 ASC). UT Tyler, which earned a 75-73 win at Belhaven on Jan. 21, is coming off a pair of road losses at ETBU and LC last weekend which ended a season-best six game winning streak.

Francis is coming off scoring 24 points at LC and leads the Patriots with 13.9 points per game this season. A senior from DeSoto, Francis is also contributing 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Melvin Anthony leads the Patriots with 7.5 rebounds per game and 26 steals. A junior from Killeen, Anthony is coming off 12 points and eight assists in the loss at LC after being limited to five points at ETBU. He scored a season-best 30 points and had 15 rebounds in an overtime win over Hardin-Simmons and leads the Patriots with five double-doubles this season. He had 10 rebounds and nine points in the last game against Belhaven.

Anthony Sanders led the Patriots with 17 points at Belhaven and is at 4.8 points per game this season. A junior from Athens, Sanders hit four 3-pointers against the Blazers. Verlo Levels is third on the team with 9.2 points per game and has contributed 42 assists and 13 steals. A sophomore from Tyler, Levels had 10 points with two 3-pointers last Thursday at ETBU. Skyler Hadden scored seven at LC and 11 at ETBU and enters this week with 7.5 points per game for the Patriots. Hadden has started the last 10 games for the Patriots and scored a season-best 25 against Concordia.

Josh Tatum leads the Patriots with 59 assists this season after having five last Saturday at LC. Tatum is a junior guard from Keller who is averaging 7.3 points per game to go along with 2.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. He had 11 points, three assists and five rebounds at Belhaven in the first meeting. Emeka Obukwelu is a freshman from Plano who has started the last 11 games. He is coming off a game at LC where he scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds and is averaging 6.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Jacob led the Patriots with 17 points in their last home game two weeks ago against ETBU and had 11 against the Tigers on the road last week. Jacobs is averaging 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in his senior season, while Long is at 5.0 points per game and freshman Davis Moore is at 4.9 points per game. Anthony leads the Patriots with 28 3-pointers this season, while Moore has hit 26 in his first season at UT Tyler.

The Patriots are averaging 77.9 points per game and are limiting the opposition to 73.7 points this season. UT Tyler comes into Thursday’s home finale shooting 45.7 percent from the field with seven games where the Patriots have shot over 50 percent from the field.

Belhaven (4-17) is coming off a 70-56 loss to UT Dallas after taking two straight wins over Ozarks. The Blazers do not count toward the ASC standings for the Patriots.
