RICHARDSON – Texas-Dallas hit 15 3-pointers and limited UT Tyler to 32.2 percent shooting as the Patriots fell 88-52 to the Comets on Thursday in an American Southwest Conference game at the UTD Activity Center.

UT Tyler (8-6, 3-5 ASC) has now lost three straight games for the first time this season and are 2-6 away from Tyler this season. UT Tyler will return to action against Ozarks at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Clarksville, Arkansas for the fourth game of its five-game road trip.

Deon Rodgers led the Patriots with 10 points against the Comets, while Anthony Gonzales had all nine of his points in the first half and Demarcus Metcalf was limited to only three points – a 3-pointer to start the game after he came into the night scoring in double-figures in five straight games.

While the Comets finished the game going 15-for-26 from beyond the arc, the Patriots would finish the game 3-for-17 on 3-pointers. Metcalf would hit the first attempt of the game before the Patriots would not hit another one until Latigo Collins connected on two in the late stages of the game.

Gonzales led the Patriots with nine points in the first half after making four shots from the field and a free throw, but the team was shooting just 31.0 percent from the field (9-for-29) including going 1-for-7 on 3-pointers with Metcalf opening the game with a 3-pointer to give the Patriots their only lead of the game at 3-0. While the Patriots struggled, the Comets came out blazing by going 11-for-16 on 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play including 4-for-4 performances from Jon Hatcher and Caleb Banks in the first half from beyond the arc.

Hatcher finished with a game-high 25 points after going 6-for-7 on 3-pointers in the game, while Banks had 18 points and Kailin Bray added 14 more for the Comets.

UT Tyler will host Texas-Dallas in a rematch on Saturday, Feb. 20 in the regular-season finale at the Herrington Patriot Center.
