SAN MARCOS – Anthony Gonzales and Reid Walker led UT Tyler with eight points each on Monday in an exhibition game against Texas State at the Strahan Coliseum.

The Patriots (0-1) fell 84-49 to the Bobcats who play out of the Sun Belt Conference in Division I. The game does not reflect on either team’s record and was used to continue progressing at the start of the season. UT Tyler opened the season on Sunday with a loss at Texas Lutheran in its first official game and will return to action against Southwestern at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Georgetown before opening its home schedule with a game against Rust College on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Herrington Patriot Center.

Walker finished the game with his eight points after hitting two 3-pointers, while Joey Cuervo added seven points and Deon Rodgers went for six. Gonzales scored six of his eight points from the free-throw line for the Patriots who were limited to a shooting percentage of 32 and committed 25 turnovers. Ty Davis, Rodgers and Ja’Carre Crockett had a team-best three rebounds each.

Gonzales led the Patriots on Sunday at TLU with 16 points, while Cuervo had 11 points against the Bulldogs.
