    Basketball players mentor in Whiteriver, Arizona

    A contingent of UT Tyler student-athletes led by associate head men’s basketball coach Jake Deer traveled to Whiteriver, Arizona this month for the Respecting the Circle of Life: Mind, Body, and Spirit – a camp which served approximately 200 kids from the White Mountain Apache Indian Tribe.

    SEASON REVIEW: UT Tyler excels throughout 2015-16 season

    Celebrate and file the 2015-16 collegiate athletic year as one of continued domination by the University of Texas at Tyler’s 17 athletic programs with two NCAA Division III national championships, a national runner-up finish, 10 NCAA postseason appearances, eight American Southwest Conference Championships, 17 ASC individual champions, nine all-Americans, four academic all-Americans, 20 all-region performers, 93 all-conference selections and 106 academic all-conference honors.

    UT Tyler seniors Anthony Gonzales and Demarcus Metcalf have been honored with selections on the 2016 American Southwest Conference Men’s Basketball All-Conference teams which were voted on by the conference’s head coaches.

    The UT Tyler men's basketball team ended the 2015-2016 season with an 89-79 loss to the Comets (17-8, 9-6) at the Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday. The Patriots finished 13-12 overall and 4-11 in conference play.

    The UT Tyler men’s basketball team got an 89-76 home win against the University of the Ozarks with sophomore Melvin Anthony having a career-best night with 24 points and 15 rebounds in American Southwest Conference action.

    Demarcus Metcalf scored a season-best 29 points and UT Tyler hit a program record 18 3-pointers as the Patriots earned a 102-78 win over Rust College on Saturday in the final road game of the season for the Patriots.

    Metcalf, Gonzales lead @uttylerMBB to road win

    The UT Tyler men’s basketball team defeated Belhaven University 94-85 in a road game where two Patriots broke their own personal bests. Demarcus Metcalf led the team with 27 points with Anthony Gonzales Jr. not far behind, scoring 23 of his own. The team improved to 11-11 overall and 4-10 in American Southwest Conference play.

    The UT Tyler men’s basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss with an 81-68 defeat to Louisiana College on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

    UT Tyler suffered its first loss at home this season with a 73-62 loss to East Texas Baptist on Thursday after being limited to 19.4 percent shooting in the first half and never being able to recover in the second at the Herrington Patriot Center.

    UT Tyler junior Deon Rodgers started scoring early in the game with the first points only :23 seconds into gameplay and didn’t slow up for the rest of the contest ending the night with 18 points and eight rebounds in a 77-71 loss to Louisiana College on Thursday at the H.O. West Fieldhouse.

    The UT Tyler men’s basketball team remained undefeated at home with a 94-75 victory over Belhaven University in front of a large crowd at the Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday. Anthony Gonzales Jr. led all scorers with 33 points for the Patriots, only one shy of his career-best.

    Jamon Copeland earned his 100th career win as a head coach with UT Tyler defeating Arlington Baptist College 82-67 in a non-conference match up where six Patriots scored in double-digits with Demarcus Metcalf, Deon Rodgers and Ty Davis leading the way with 14 points each. Rodgers also grabbed 10 rebounds to give himself a double-double Thursday at the J. Frank Norris Memorial Auditorium.

    UT Tyler saw a double-digit lead with six minutes remaining in the game turn into an 84-79 loss against Ozarks on Saturday at the Mabee Gymnasium with the Eagles going on an 8-3 run in the final two minutes to earn their first American Southwest Conference win of the season and extend the Patriots’ losing streak to four.

    The UT Tyler men’s basketball team fell 77-51 to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference game at the Mayborn Campus Center after being limited to 32.8 percent shooting and getting to the free-throw line only six times the entire game.

    Metcalf earns ASC East Division Player of the Week

    UT Tyler senior Demarcus Metcalf has earned American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week for the first time in his career after leading the Patriots in scoring and rebounding in a pair of victories at last week’s Christmas Classic at the Herrington Patriot Center. A forward from Dallas, Metcalf matched his career-best with 23 points against Texas Lutheran and has now recorded seven or more rebounds in four of the past five games coming into tonight’s 7:30 p.m. game against LeTourneau.

    Demarcus Metcalf had 17 points and nine rebounds and Melvin Anthony recorded the first double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lift UT Tyler to a 71-65 non-conference win over Southwestern in a Christmas Classic finale on Wednesday where the Patriots trailed by as many as 13 but fought back to sweep the season series over the Pirates.

    Anthony Gonzales scored 28 points and had four steals to help lead UT Tyler to a 99-85 non-conference win over Rust College in its Herrington Patriot Center opener on Tuesday. The Patriots (2-1) shot 55 percent from the field, hit 27 free throws and withstood a first-half charge from the Bearcats to earn their second straight win in their highest scoring game of the season.
