Centenary Hands Men’s Basketball 81-65 Loss

SHREVEPORT – Centenary senior Maxx Nakwaasah earned a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds for his last game in the Gold Dome as the Gents cruised to an 81-65 win over UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon.

The Gents broke open a back-and-froth game when Caden Cheramie drove hard to the basket and earned his way to the free throw line where he knocked down two shots to give Centenary a 17-9 lead with 11:16 on the clock.

A 19-2 run for Centenary ensued, ended only when Darren Houliston was fouled and sent to the free throw line for the Patriots.  Houliston connected on both making it 21 – 11.

The Gents’ dominated defensively, keeping the Patriots without a field goal from the 17:30 mark to just under the 8:00 minute mark in the first half to take a 35-29 lead into the break.

Centenary entered the half up, 35–29.

Another Centenary run in the second half, this time a 13-0 run in which the Patriots were held scoreless for four minutes, sealed the win.

Billy Hopson led UT Tyler with 20 points, followed by 13 from Houliston.  Stephan Tarpley posted a season-high 12 rebounds.

The Patriots are now 7-16 on the season and tied with Mississippi College for fourth place in the American Southwest Conference East Division. The top four teams advance to the Championship Tournament.

The men will wrap-up the regular season at home, hosting UT Dallas on Thursday and Ozarks on Saturday.
