SHREVEPORT
– Centenary senior Maxx Nakwaasah earned a double-double with 25 points and 11
rebounds for his last game in the Gold Dome as the Gents cruised to an 81-65
win over UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon.
The
Gents broke open a back-and-froth game when Caden Cheramie drove hard to the
basket and earned his way to the free throw line where he knocked down two shots to
give Centenary a 17-9 lead with 11:16 on the clock.
A
19-2 run for Centenary ensued, ended only when Darren Houliston was fouled and
sent to the free throw line for the Patriots. Houliston connected on both
making it 21 – 11.
The
Gents’ dominated defensively, keeping the Patriots without a field goal from
the 17:30 mark to just under the 8:00 minute mark in the first half to take a
35-29 lead into the break.
Centenary
entered the half up, 35–29.
Another
Centenary run in the second half, this time a 13-0 run in which the Patriots
were held scoreless for four minutes, sealed the win.
Billy
Hopson led UT Tyler with 20 points, followed by 13 from Houliston. Stephan Tarpley posted a season-high 12
rebounds.
The
Patriots are now 7-16 on the season and tied with Mississippi College for
fourth place in the American Southwest Conference East Division. The top four
teams advance to the Championship Tournament.
The men will wrap-up the regular season at home, hosting UT Dallas on Thursday and
Ozarks on Saturday.
