ALPINE – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team took an 80-58 loss to Sul Ross on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference game at the Gallego Center.

The Patriots (10-4, 3-4 ASC) were limited to 38.5 percent shooting, while the Lobos (11-4, 6-1 ASC) won their ninth straight game after hitting 13 3-pointers in the game. UT Tyler will return home to host Louisiana College on Thursday and Belhaven on Saturday, Jan. 13 for its alumni game and only home stand of the month of January. The Patriots and Wildcats will tip-off at 7:30 p.m., while the Saturday afternoon game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center.

Emeka Obukwelu led the Patriots with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Xavier Fogle had nine points off the bench. Melvin Anthony grabbed seven rebounds but was limited to five points on 1-for-5 shooting and Johnell Lane finished with eight points after hitting two of the six UT Tyler 3-pointers.

Obukwelu led the Patriots at halftime with eight points, including the first six points of the game for the team. Lane added five in the opening 20 minutes for the Patriots who were 3-for-8 on 3-pointers and shot 35.7 percent. UTT had 11 turnovers in the first half and only led once at 2-0 after Obukwelu opened the game with a basket before SRSU went on an 8-0 to start building on its lead.

The 22-point loss was the first double-digit loss of the season for the Patriots who fall to 6-3 on the road.
