TYLER – UT Tyler suffered its first loss at home this season with a 73-62 loss to East Texas Baptist on Thursday after being limited to 19.4 percent shooting in the first half and never being able to recover in the second at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (10-10, 3-9 ASC) were down by as many as 23 points in the second half, but would stay within striking distance much like they did last Saturday in Marshall when they fell behind the Tigers early and then made it a five-point game in a loss. UT Tyler would shoot 36.8 percent from the field in the second half and knock down three 3-pointers, but the Tigers (17-4, 10-2 ASC) held off any comeback attempt to sweep the season series.

Deon Rodgers led the Patriots with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while Melvin Anthony recorded a career-best 13 rebounds and also had eight points for the Patriots who finished the game with a 51-45 rebounding advantage but saw the Tigers hit 10 3-pointers while they only had three the entire game. Demarcus Metcalf would also scored in double-figures with 14 points and seven rebounds and Anthony Gonzales had eight points off the bench.

The Patriots, who went 19-for-24 from the free-throw line, owned a 30-20 scoring advantage in the paint and scored 18 second-chance points, but the perimeter shooting of Dylan Augustine who had five 3-pointers was too much to overcome for the Patriots who are now 7-1 on their home court this season.

UT Tyler will return to action against Louisiana College at 3 p.m. on Saturday back at the Herrington Patriot Center. The Patriots took a 69-64 loss to the Wildcats last Thursday in the first meeting of the season between the two teams in Pineville, Louisiana.
